His last comment warmed my heart. ‘Keep on that way, she’ll appreciate it forever.’ That was such a kind thing to say from one stranger to another. I was so pleased that he had not only found my card and responded but was so charming about the idea. Messages like this make it all worth it. It’s part of the magic. It showed me that anyone in the world can appreciate how difficult it is to lose someone. I took comfort in his words and prepared my response back:

Hi Ivan,

A Merry Christmas to you.

Thank you so much for responding to my postcard message. I really, really appreciate it. I left 60 postcards around Paris in all sorts of places – book shops, on the Métro, in postcard racks, in cafés, telephone boxes, photo booths . . . you name it, we left it. I even handed a postcard to some girls at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower and they sent me an email with a picture of it at the top!

I am actually in Dorset (south coast of England) at the moment where I am from originally – seeing my family for a week. I am working on the blog at the moment and once I have a few more responses I will publish. It will be for family and friends but hopefully people will forward it on to other people. It would be great if you could send a photo of yourself for the blog – but only if you don’t mind, of course.
